Lagarhus Aviation Consulting - LAC - was started in 1997 by Captain Otto Lagarhus, at that time Senior Vice President of SAS and head of the Production Division, which covered the Operation and Technical parts of SAS.
His objective was to establish a consulting company focusing on safety and quality, and with a unique selection of expert consultants. He was then - and is now - of the strong opinion that air transport companies, organizations and authorities need consultants with stronger relevant and real-life experience. Airlines and other air transport companies use large sums of money for "general consultants", and they are not getting value for money, and often function as "learning arenas" for general business consultants. He has therefore assembled a network of unique expert consultants, with strong and varied backgrounds in the safety and quality areas of air transport, ready to assist companies, organizations and authorities as required.
Otto Lagarhus served as Director General Civil Aviation (DGCA) of Norway from 01. February 2005 until May 2006. This was at the request of the Norwegian Government through the Minister of Transport, with the clear objective of increasing the quality and efficiency of the Norwegian CAA, while ensuring that the move of Headquarters from Oslo to Bodo was carried out as decided by the Norwegian Parliament. This assignments also included tenures as Board Member of EASA and Eurocontrol. The mission was completed in May 2006 according to plan.
Of the most recent assignments, his role in the struggle to get a «real airport» (2200 m+) for the Northern Helgeland region in Norway should be mentioned.
